Default Kaye - How did you make the Card Game?

Have you all seen this awesome matching pairs card game that Kaye (Nokosh) made with my Animal Soup kit! So freaking Cool!

Kaye I want details... what did you use to make the cards? Did you laminate them? How did you make such a cool box too? You are amazing!

They are SO cool I want to make something like this for christmas pressies for kids I know... but I suck at anything that has to do with real paper and scissors... please help!

Kate

Isn't it cool! I just tweeted about it because I think it rocks, but would love some details on how it is made too!

hehe glad you like it Kate as I think your kit was perfect for such a fun project.

the cards aren't laminated but you certainly could do that to prolong their life span. I just figured I can print new ones if they get tatty.

The box
The box is a large matchbox and I got the template from here. For the base I used a 120gsm card (which I think for the next one I will use a slightly heavier stock as its just a little flimsy)
The cover of the box and the cards are made from a 200gsm stock

I just copied and pasted the box keyline into photoshop and resized onto an A4 page, then placed papers/elements accordingly. I reduced the opacity of the keyline so that is was just a soft grey colour just visible enough for me to still see it when I trimmed up. My finished box size is approx 67x92mm

Then simply print it out, trim it up and stick together. I used a permanent glue tape, nice and easy and no mess!

The cards
Once the box was made I measured up what size card would fit inside nicely, mine are 59x86mm that leaves a little bit of room for little fingers to dig in and grab them.

For the backs of the cards I chose a patterned paper and filled my A4 page with that, then printed it out.
For the card faces, I created myself a template in ps for the cards so that I had about 9 different cards on an A4 page. (ie 9 boxes of 59x86mm size done in a grid of 3 across by 3 down) Using the patterned paper you have printed put it back through your printer and print your card page on the blank side. Because I created 9 different cards on each page I just had to print them twice to instantly create my pairs (saves doing the same design twice in ps)

Trim them up and if you have a round corner trimmer then use that on the edges to finish them off

DONE!!

a tip!
before printing your box and making it up, I suggest you do a dumby run with just the plain paper you intend to use, as depending on the thickness of your cardstock you may need to adjust the size of your box cover

I think I've covered everything but if somethings not clear let me know.

oh I love the rounded corner look... I assume I can buy some kind of punch that rounds corners say at spotlight??

You are so clever. I paper scrap (not so often, actually hardly ever, now I've discovered digital), but I never thought to do anything like your cards. Don't like all the mess and the restrictions compared to digital. They are such an excellent idea. A set for girls with fairies would be super cool also.
