As you will have likely seen or heard on the news, the state of Victoria in Australia has suffered this country's greatest natural disaster with the recent devastating bushfires. These bushfires have claimed over 180 lives, more than 1,033 homes have been destroyed, and over 450,000 hectares of land has been blackened, and these numbers continue to rise. One of PBP's designers has been directly affected by these fires, and a number of members, including myself, have been anxiously keeping a watch on bushfire updates, in case the fires creep dangerously close.

Does this sound like you? Well, I’ll come clean with you, it definitely sounds like ME! I love fonts, I have thousands of fonts, and I will confess that I will probably never get around to using most of them. But I HAVE to have them just in case ONE day I might need them. I really think that the perfect font can make or break your layout. Imagine that you have created a gorgeous dreamy page, with lots of blending and softness, and then you go and type some very emotional journaling about your love for your child in TIMES NEW ROMAN!! Clang! Yuck, it all falls rather flat. This dreamy page needed a soft font, probably a handwriting font to make the journaling more personal. You can see that having a diverse range of fonts in your stash is essential. If you are thinking about expanding your font stash I have compiled a list of some free font sites that you might find helpful. This is my all time favorite font site mainly because the fonts are displayed by using some funny quotes. Sadly it hasn’t been updated for a while but there are still plenty of great classic fonts available there. Dafont is a tremendous free font resource, I can seriously spend hours trolling through the categories. Dafont has a custom preview box where you can type in sample text to see how the font looks in the words of your choice! Currently there are 8,675 fonts on Dafonts database so I can see there are a few that I don’t have! A nice, easy site to navigate and has a wide range of fonts available. It also has a text preview box but Urban Fonts also shows the entire alphabet in that font when you hover your mouse over it! Pretty neat! The name of the site is 1001 fonts but they have over 10,000 fonts available! One feature of this site is that you have the option of buying all 10,000 fonts in one download if you are interested on saving time going through and downloading the ones you like. This is a wonderful resource for the scrapbooker because Kevin & Amanda’s site is filled to the brim with luscious handwritten fonts. This is definitely my go-to resource when I am hunting down that perfect scrapping font! I had to grab another couple while I was researching this article because they are just so cute! This is a great site if you have an idea of the style of font you are after rather than the actual font name, and you don’t have time to browse around. This is a great site, it has over 10,000 great fonts and the way that they are presented makes them so easy to see and to get the feel of the font. There are 60 different categories to make your search for the perfect font that much easier. And there is also a New & Popular category that has the latest in font magic, where I managed to pick up a new font called Twilight (for all those vampire lovers out there!). This site states that it has 6,500 fonts and it was almost bewildering to surf through some of the categories. I ended up grabbing another couple from here too! A great resource if you know the name of a font but can’t find out if it’s a free one or not! Make your own font! If you still haven’t found the perfect font yet and all the fonts from the sites we have listed are still missing that certain something – why don’t you have a go at making your own font at yourfonts.com. So have fun everyone browsing for the perfect font! I am confident that there will be fonts at some of these sites that even the most enthusiastic collector won't have, I know that I have come away from researching this article with at least another twenty fonts to add to my stash!
