Picklemama Report Did you know that 2009 is the anniversary of the internet? I am not referring to the World Wide Web (WWW) here, which provides content such as websites like Pickleberrypop, but rather, the infrastructure behind it. It was invented back in 1969 by the US Department of Defence (read more here), basically to improve communication between departments by linking together large computer systems. This step was key to the invention of the WWW in 1989. So basically, the internet is simply a network of computer networks. I find this whole topic fascinating because of how fast a simple idea grew into something so huge, which created whole industries that never even existed before, and is accessible to hundreds of millions of people worldwide. Digital scrapbooking may or may not have been around anyway had the internet not been invented, but one thing I know for sure, if it wasn't for the internet, this fast-growing industry of ours sure would be very different! Let's think about this for a minute - online stores, the ability to share our pages in online galleries or via email, the ability to browse products online, purchase products instantly, and receive our downloads within seconds - all possible because of this wonderful invention. Trend Watch - June 2009 Playing with colour is one of the most creative and expressive aspects of designing a layout. The colours you choose can, of course, help to make your layout more beautiful, but they can also lend additional meaning to the emotional content of your page. As you surf the galleries, pay attention to the layouts that grab your eye. Notice which colours and combinations you find most pleasing, as well as the feelings those colours evoke. The use of colour is both a science and art. You can learn concepts like analogous or complementary colors, but you need to see them in action on your pages to be conversant in their emotional power. There are several colours that are seeing increased popularity in the digi-scrapping world right now: white, blue, orange and green.
