We hope all the Mum’s had a truly special Mother’s Day on May 10! I must admit, I had my hopes up for an iPhone for Mother’s Day (not sure what possessed me to think that I might get one!), but of course, I didn’t, and hey, that’s ok, because I got some wonderful hand-made crafts from the kids, and a gorgeous statue of a Mother with her two kids which I will treasure, especially because it really depicts the stage of my kids lives at the moment. So…did you get in front of the camera for once, instead of behind it? If you didn’t, you should, so make sure you take some photos of yourself too, and then scrap them!
Sadly, Alice Koh Designs left the store at the beginning of May, but it is bittersweet because Alice is the owner of a fantastic publication called The Daily Scrapper, so we know we will still be working with her. Alice, we wish you all the best, and look forward to seeing your publication grow and grow!

Poetry for scrapbooking - easy as A,B,C!
by Amandac
Poetry can mean many things to many different people. To some, poetry isn’t poetry unless it is written in the epic style of Homer’s Iliad, while for others the amusing turn of phrase found in a limerick is just their cup of tea. Wordsworth described poetry as “the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings” while John Keats wrote that poetry “should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts, and appear almost a remembrance”. Poetry can be seen as an intensely individual experience.
For me the magic of poetry is in it’s ability to use words to portray pure emotion in a lyrical format. It doesn’t always have to rhyme but it does have to flow from the heart. From a scrapbooking perspective poetry is a beautiful way to express emotion and can add a deeper layer of meaning to your special page.
Sounds a little bit overwhelming doesn’t it? I bet that when you first saw the word Poetry you immediately thought that it was too hard to do and that you wouldn’t even know where to start to write one. I know it seems a bit intimidating at first but really poetry doesn’t have to be an exercise in terror. I have found a very useful tool to make the creation of poetry that much easier.
Let me introduce you to the world of the 'instant poem'. I stumbled across this site while looking for journaling tips for an All About Me page. The site is called ETTC, Educational Technology Training Center and it has over 75 different poems in a number of different styles. All you need to do is select the link to the poem title that sounds appealing and then add your own words to the form to make a unique and individual creation.
Here are some pages that contain poetry forms found at ETTC that might inspire you.

lisarose - My attempted poem

amandac – Once I was….
I hope you find something at this site that inspires you to try your hand at writing your own poem. If you do feel the urge to create we would love to see you come and play along with our Poetry Challenge running for the month of May at Pickleberrypop and you could go in the draw to win a $10 Gift Certificate to the Pickleberrypop Shop! Have fun!
