Digital Scrapbooking Day has come and gone for another year, this year marked the third official DSD.
It's funny to look back on where digi has taken us over the years, how styles have changed, and even how styles have made a comeback. I have been digi scrapping since early 2005, so by no means was I one of the first, but back then, kits were a whole lot simpler! I love the variety of kits that are available now, how experienced designers continue to grow, and how new designers are able to bring something new to the industry. I am one of those scrappers who thinks there is room for every style, because we don't all have the same tastes, or even the same reasons to scrap - some of us scrap our memories, and some of us scrap as a creative outlet, and some of us just love trying something new! I guess this is what drives me to offer a large variety of styles at PBP, after all, it's not my choice as to what you should scrap, it's your choice. Have fun with it!

One Photo, Lots of Different Ideas!
by the PBP Team, compiled by fazzbech
The PBP team members came up with the following list describing some of the different sorts of things you can do with a digital photo - maybe there are some things in this list that you haven't tried yet, so why not give them a go and maybe learn something new that you love!
1. Crop the photo, enlarge or reduce it, or cut it into a shape
2. Convert it to black and white/sepia/apply a tint
3. Clip it to a photo mask (below are just a sample of some of the fantastic masks we have in store at PBP):
4. Blend it into the background, so that the edges of the photo fade and blend in seamlessly

5. Extract the subject from the background

6. Adjust the colours/saturation, brightness, contrast, and/or exposure
7. Turn your photo into a sketch, cartoon, poster, oil painting, etc.
8. Use the one photo multiple times in a series, altering each one slighty, for example, applying a different tint to each photo.
9. Fix almost anything you don't like in it - hair sticking up, a blemish, something distracting in the background, etc.
10. Selective colouring, for example, converting the photo to black and white but leaving only the eyes of your subject in colour

11. Give photos a worn appearance by applying aged overlays (folds/tears/creases) and/or applying special effects (below are just a sample of some of the worn overlays we have in store at PBP):
12. Flip the photo, for example, flipping a photo horizontally might make your subject look the other way (depending on the photo of course!), which can be quite handy at times!
13. Soften (blur) the photo, or parts of it, such as blurring distracting backgrounds
14. Run an action on the photo for a specific effect
15. Apply or create all sorts of frames (wood, metal, plastic, glass), collages and mats for your photos. There are many different types of free actions on the web to create frames, mats and effects), here are a few sites to get you started: http://graphicssoft.about.com (perform a search on the effect you are looking for)

Only Got A Minute? Here's a few quick and useful tips!
by PBP team members.
With the celebration season fast approaching you are sure to be giving your digital camera a work-out. Sasha has found a great article from Digital Photography School on how to keep your camera safe and in tip-top working condition:
Seven Digital Camera Predators and How to Keep them at Bay
And to help you work smart while you are busy scrapping all those fabulous photos, Teresnlilly has linked us up with some fabulous Photoshop Actions from Littlephotoshop.
35 Free Essential Workflow Actions for Photoshop CS2, CS3, CS4
Last but not least, to help you scrap those pages even faster Sasha has some quick and easy tips to create your own templates in Photoshop:
How to make a template from an existing layout:
Open your page in the PSD format.
Follow these steps for each individual layer.
Image -> Adjustments -> Hue/Saturation - slide the bar of the Lightness to the left to the point where your element looks grey. Repeat that for all the layers.
Rename your layers if you you wish by double clicking on their names in the Layers Palette.
Save it as another name and you have a template!
Amanda's Fabulous Font Find!
by Amandac

This month I have a real treat for you! Instead of one fabulous free font I have a whole pile of them for your font-loving pleasure! This month we are going to talk about kevinandamanda.com. Now some of you may already be familiar with this fantastic blog but if you haven’t been there yet then do yourself a favour and run, don’t walk, over there right now (well maybe after you have finished reading the newsletter lol). There are some truly great handwritten fonts there and the best thing of all, especially in this time of economic hardship, is that they are free!
Kevin and Amanda have a fabulous range of handwritten fonts that can be downloaded either one at a time or you can select the DOWNLOAD ALL FONTS button, my personal favourite! I admit that I have all these fonts and I check back regularly to see if any more have been added. Peas fonts are my all time go-to fonts and I know that you are bound to find something here that you will just have to have. In fact I bet you won’t be able to leave the site without having downloaded at least ONE font.
Next month I will have some fun Christmas fonts for you, so until then, happy downloading!

First winter – First snow
by evitangel
This page stood out in the gallery this month as it is a delightful combination of white space and complex layering. The mixture of realistic elements, such as the branches and ric rac, with the adorable hand-drawn elements is an attractive, whimsical design style.
Congratulations! Please PM fazzbech via the forums to

Family Quotes!
Love them or hate them here are some quotes about family.
It is not flesh and blood but the heart which makes us fathers and sons. ~Johann Schiller
The family is a haven in a heartless world. ~Attributed to Christopher Lasch
Nobody has ever before asked the nuclear family to live all by itself in a box the way we do. With no relatives, no support, we've put it in an impossible situation. ~Margaret Mead
Families are like fudge - mostly sweet with a few nuts. ~Author Unknown
The thing about family disasters is that you never have to wait long before the next one puts the previous one into perspective. ~Robert Brault, www.robertbrault.com
If you don't believe in ghosts, you've never been to a family reunion. ~Ashleigh Brilliant
We all grow up with the weight of history on us. Our ancestors dwell in the attics of our brains as they do in the spiraling chains of knowledge hidden in every cell of our bodies. ~Shirley Abbott
Family: A social unit where the father is concerned with parking space, the children with outer space, and the mother with closet space. ~Evan Esar
A family is a unit composed not only of children but of men, women, an occasional animal, and the common cold. ~Ogden Nash
The family. We were a strange little band of characters trudging through life sharing diseases and toothpaste, coveting one another's desserts, hiding shampoo, borrowing money, locking each other out of our rooms, inflicting pain and kissing to heal it in the same instant, loving, laughing, defending, and trying to figure out the common thread that bound us all together. ~Erma Bombeck
When you look at your life, the greatest happinesses are family happinesses. ~Joyce Brothers
I know that if odour were visible, as colour is,
I'd see the summer garden in rainbow clouds.
~Robert Bridges, "Testament of Beauty"
