This tutorial will get you familiar with the
basic tools such as Move, Layers & Type Tools found in Photoshop CS and CS2.
Move Tool
- Go ahead and open a paper and an element of
your choice. For this example, I will be using a paper and
element from Faer Haven kit by Faer Oak. To open a
file, you can double click anywhere in the grey area in
Photoshop or go to File > Open.
- Once you have both your files open go to
your Tools and choose the one circled below:
If you do not see this tool anywhere, then go to Windows > and
click on Tools.
- Now once you have chosen that tool to move
objects, we will be moving an element onto the paper we have
just opened. Simply click on the element and drag it onto
the paper. See example:

- Once you have done the above, you will
notice that your element is now on the paper! You can
still use your move tool to move the element around to where
you'd like to display it.
Layers
- Now say you did the above and moved several
different elements onto your paper. For the sake of this
example, say we have a ribbon on our paper and a line of
stitches. But, the stitches are UNDER the ribbon and I
would like the stitches to be on TOP of the ribbon. Here's
where Layers come in handy and how they work.
- Find your Layers Box. If you don't see
it, go to Windows > and then click on Layers. This is what
will appear:

- Now I am wanting to move the stitches on top
of the ribbon, so click on that Layer and it will highlight it
and then drag it up over the layer that has the ribbon.
That's all there is to it! Just drag it up and over.
Tip: Now
you know how to move objects and place them over or under other objects!
The best thing to do to learn how to use your Tools, is to hover over each
one and it will tell you what it is and then, try it! Just play with
the tools and see what each one does. Let's go over a few more tools
that come in handy when doing digital scrapbooking.
Type Tool
- Choose the Type tool from your Tools.
It looks like this:
Then click anywhere you'd like to type and type away!
- You have so many options on the type of Font
you can use, the size, style, etc. Check the options up
top:
and
play with the different settings. By clicking on the T
(the third one circled all the way to the right), you can play
with the Warp Text tool and make your type wavy. Go ahead
and give it a try!
Tip:
PSCS(2) has so many features and options -seemingly endless!! I feel
there is no better way to learn then to leap right in and play with it, get
a feel for it and be familiar with it. It can be intimidating at
first, but you will be so proud of yourself when you realize you CAN do it!!
Good luck and happy scrapping!
