Do you know your neighbors? We moved into our house February of 2014. I know the guy next door's name, and recently started talking to the guy across the street. He is very talkative and sometimes doesn't understand "I have to go now". I feel like knowing your neighbors is almost lost on this society. I wanted to know all our neighbors when we moved in. I wanted to be the neighbor that others would come to when they needed a cup of sugar. But, we live less than a mile from a grocery store, and a 24 hr walmart. Pretty sure people just do their own thing.

So what about you? Do you know your neighbors?

I live in a unit complex......I'm the only single woman amid a lot of single men. They surround me. I know them by name and to say hello and that is as far as I want it to go. I have trouble trusting people and would never ask any of them for anything as I can't stand the thought of owing something to any of them in case they wanted something in return....hence my trust issues.
Being on your own after spending all your life with someone makes you very wary. I have learnt to fix and do most things without help from anyone, and if by chance I can't fix it, I'll ask my son or brother to help me. I am very independent.
This is sad as before I moved here I knew all my neighbours really well.

we lived in apartments before this house. I only really met one or two of my neighbors. Didn't know or say hi to any of them. The apartment before that, the neighbors below us had an Indian restaurant nearby they invited us to.... but i don't even think we ever learned their names.

we live on an acre.. and I am in my own little bubble I feel like most of the time. If I get out of the house to go to the grocery store most days I feel lucky most days! So... I don't really know most of my neighbors.. some of them I know them but not enough that we would have a good conversation or know much about each others lives

My parents know almost each person on their street. Granted, my dad is really the one who knows them, because he is nosy. And they've lived there for 15 years. Hahahah

When we were growing up we were the neighborhood that had all the kid night games, knew everyone of the kids on the blocks, had all the parties etc.. that kind of things seem to have disappeared in our community now. Our kids have done night games for quite a few years and called all their friends but they were mostly school friends and not necessarily in the neighborhood.

I was just talking to my hubby about this the other day. I live across the street from the home I grew up in. When I was a child, I knew every family in all of the houses in our neighborhood, and I spent lots of time in their homes (several of the neighbors were older couples that I adopted as extra grandparents *grin*). Now, I still know quite a few of my neighbors, although not like when I was a kid. There are several homes that I have no idea who lives there. We don't interact with our neighbors like we used to. I chat with several of my neighbors when I see them outside, but we rarely go visit unless someone has been sick or had a baby or something. Seems like everyone is busy with their own lives & families, so neighbors are kind of on the back burner.

My sister lived in Parker Colorado, and I was amazed at the difference in her neighborhood there. We were visiting them for Easter, and after going to church, one of her neighbors asked what she'd made for dessert, and if we'd want to come to the park to have a neighborhood dinner. It was awesome. They knocked on doors all the way to the park and invited people to come along. There ended up being a big group....such a fun day. Unfortunately, I left that in Colorado and didn't come home to Utah and do that. Gotta work on that.

I have been trying to be more active with having conversations at least with my neighbors when I see them. :)

Faye when you lived in the same town as I do now (moved back to there about 13 years ago) I went to High School with your sister. Did you move to there after or are you actually living in the same town as me because oh my that would be really really unreal that we are now living in the same city and didn't even realize it!!!!

Lol, I've lived in Garland my entire life, other than 4 years at USU in Logan. I guess I just couldn't completely untie the apron strings. Although, now that it's just me and my older sister living here, my hubby and I are talking of moving south to be closer to grandkids and his work (in Clearfield). Which sister did you go to school with?

We used to know all our immediate neighbours, but several have moved and one passed away and the siblings rent the house out so we only know 3 now.
We still keep in touch with the ones that moved but the new neighbours arent very friendly, even went as far as ignoring our waves and hellos. They sit in their cars alot out the front so hubby who wont be ignored went and knocked on their car window until they acknowledged him and got a 30 second chat out of them! They look out the windows alot every time we drive out the driveway! lol Ah well there goes the neighbourhood!

Alanna I am sorry about your neighbors. It is always hard to have something like that happen and then feel good about trying to be a "good" neighbor.. We still keep in touch with all our friends and neighbors from our tight knit "family" in our last place we lived.

Hmmm....did you used to have a craft shop in your home, or something? Lol, for some reason, it seems like I remember someone close to crossroads having one..just wondered if it was you. I'll tell JaNae hi from you :) But...I don't know what your maiden name was. I hope she can figure it out *grin*

Kristina where are you living. I am in Northern Arizona, Chino Valley!!

I am in apache junction, so south of you. I'm pretty much at the base of Superstition Springs mountain! !!

I LOVE to hear you're close to me though. Most of my scrappy friends are no where close! :)

I have to say Kristina I barely ever get down that way, you all are too hot for me :) And I am so used to my slow paced life. But I am Skype phone call away :)
