My sister in law is competing this weekend in her body building competition. She works soo very hard in her field. She trains everyday for hours and hours and her eating habits are so very strict. I love to work out with her and she is always so supportive of anyone around her that is trying to better themselves. When it gets closer to her competition though she is very very focused and needs to be on her own to finalize her last steps toward the competition.
I always thought that a body builder was one of those people that was disgusting with huge muscles that bulged everywhere and non flattering etc etc etc.. Now that I have watched her succeed and watched her dedication and determination and then watched her body transform it has changed my perception of her sport. She is very fit. Her body does not show big huge steroid gross looking muscle haha and she is amazingly talented in what she does...

with that said.. do you exercise? what do you do? How do you stay motivated in having a healthy lifestyle?

Our family started working out with my brother and sister in law and their family about a year and a half ago. we have gotten out of that routine the last few months and I have really missed it. My sister in law is now in school full time and working full time and works out at the gym at her work so their time has been limited and so now our time as a family has changed and I think that is part of our lost mojo.. but hopefully we will have that back soon. She is my inspiration that is for sure. Here is a layout that I did for her.. I took the photo of her for one of her photo shoots :)

Do you have a scrapbook layout about exercise? let's see them :)

I've been doing the "C25k" program, which is "couch to 5K". It breaks down a goal of running a 5K into smaller goals for beginning runners. The program is about 8 weeks, running three times/week. I just did "week 6, day 1" today. :)
I've started and stopped a few times, but this is the furthest I've ever made it in the program, so I'm pretty proud of my progress. Consistently, I've run M/W/F for 3 or 4 weeks.

I'd be "golden" if I paired my running with better eating habits. While we are making strides towards healthier meals, do not eat out as much, I still tend to skip meals and make unhealthy choices. I have, for the past 4 weeks roughly, avoided dairy for the most part. My daughter is allergic to dairy, egg and peanuts, so we use soy as substitution in most things. I am lactose intolerant, but have not cared too much in the past. I've made the concious decision to avoid it, which has severely impacted the amount of junk food I "can have"... so that's a plus.

I still have soda (cherry coke zero, mmmmmmm), coffee (black), and have found dairy free junk food. But blah. Step at a time.

Oh, I quit smoking about 18 months ago. That's obviously the biggest thing we've changed (hubby and I, both).

Let's see. The main motivation right now is not breaking the "chain" or cycle I've been working on for so long. I enjoy seeing the progress in my run times/distances, how I don't feel like dying when I've run a mile. I guess that's my version of "runner's high".

Other, bigger picture motivation. ... husband and I are considering having a third baby, but one of our "stipulations" is healthier (both of us)... i need to be able to have a healthy pregnancy, and starting off at about the same weight I was post pregnancy with #2 is not my ideal situation. So I definitely have some improvements to make before we can proceed on that front.

I've made a couple LOs about this. I'll come back to post them later :)

I walk every morning. I love walking out of town into the countryside early in the morning & watching the sun come up over the mountains. I take Sundays off - gotta give these old bones a day to recuperate. I usually go four miles, but went about five this morning. I have been invited to join a couple of different groups of ladies that walk, but i just love going out on my own. I'm doing this for ME this time, so motivation hasn't been a problem for me yet. (I've always tried to lose weight before for the wrong reasons. This time, I'm doing it for my health.) I'm a little worried about winter...I really hate walking on my treadmill, but I want to keep losing through the winter, so I'm going to have to convince myself that I can handle it. But hey, if we have another mild winter, I won't have to worry about that & will be able to walk outside :) I usually ride my bike several times a day, too. Lol, I have a really CUTE cruiser bike...not the greatest for long distances, but man, that thing is comfortable to ride. So, I only go 8-10 miles on it, but hey, I feel like a kid when I'm riding it, even though I probably look more like the wicked witch of the west on a lime green & electric blue bike *grin*.

I also just bought a bowflex from my son. Got a great deal on it, so I thought I'd try it. Lol, I'm SORE...so it's working muscles that haven't been used for a while. I haven't figured it all out yet - I haven't even had it a week yet. But, I really love rowing on it & like that I can work my arms & legs without having a full weight set or going to the gym (another thing I am not very good about doing). I started a weight loss program last November 18, and *gulp* I hate to say it - but I've lost 95 pounds (lol, I'm really happy that I have lost that much. It just makes me sick that I let myself get that heavy.) I guess the important thing is that I'm doing something about it now. I still have a ways to go, but I'll get there...slowly but surely.

I have always been a healthy eater, but also a big snacker between meals. So, I cut out all sweets & have tried to quit snacking. If I absolutely have to have something, I eat healthy snacks. My grandkids are kind of sad, coz I quit baking *grin* I still keep some treats for them, and so far, they really don't tempt me. Something finally clicked in my brain *grin* For the most part, I don't eat rice, pasta, potatoes or bread unless we are eating at someone's home or sometimes when we go out. I really try to keep my carbs and fat intake low. I know it won't kill me, so I just plan ahead. If we're going out, I'm really good during the day so I can afford the extra calories/carbs. I found that after going without sweets and fatty treats for so long, that the stuff I used to enjoy is sickening sweet....scary how much I used to love Sunkist soda ...and well, we won't even talk about chocolate. I still like the flavor of chocolate, so once in a while I buy almonds with cocoa on them, and that usually works. Once in a while I even let myself have a treat, but a taste works now, when I used to think I needed a whole package *grin*

Kristina, sounds like you've made some fantastic changes, too...congrats! I hate running, but I hope that I can learn to hate it less someday soon *grin*
