I have to vent...

My youngest son has been handed the biggest **** sandwich the last 3 weeks. He is a VERY social person. He has a ton of friends, so not being able to go to school or hang out with any of them was the first blow. He went to the local pond to fish it a few times before the stay-at-home order came down from the governor on Friday. The pond is right behind his best friend's house, so I know there was some sneaking around happening, but I didn't mind because both of them know and do keep to the 6ft rule. Then his girlfriend broke up with him over the weekend. He was "in love", so that was a real kick in the nuts for him, even though they are remaining friends (which I think is going to be even harder for him that not staying friends). The biggest blow came this morning. He applied for and was accepted to a Flight Academy - full scholarship, all expenses paid - 8 week course to learn how to fly and earn a pilot's license. This was supposed to happen this summer, and he got the email this morning saying it was canceled, and this was the last summer he can qualify for it (he'd been passed up 2 years in a row already because of an age requirement).

I know he's not the only one dealing with these kinds of things, but as a parent, it's hard to see him have to deal with everything coming at him - or not coming at him, as the case has ended up being so far. Is anyone else in the same boat? I know there are a lot of seniors missing out on prom and graduation this year. Nicky is a junior this year, so he's not missing out on senior activities, just everything else :(

This lock down has gotten us all a bit crazy. Here in CA it seems like forever. I am so sorry about all the issues you son is having. The flight school sucks! Maybe they can lift the age requirement next year since they have cancelled this year. Or check to see if maybe they will do it again later in the year. Hope things improve for him and all of you! Stay safe!

That is heartbreaking for your son, so many disappointments right now for him. It's hard for us adults to deal with everything that is happening but for kids and young adults, my heart goes out to them b/c they are still learning coping life skills and everything seems to hit them so much harder. Hugs to him.

Bailey has TBI so although she realizes that we aren't there and knows that we are using facetime each day to talk to her, b/c of her short term memory loss, she doesn't really remember and think about the fact that we haven't been there in over 3 wks. That is a small blessing. It is really hard on us though, I really need to see her, give her a hug and just "be" with her. Thank goodness for FT every day.

Thanks ladies, yes it's hard on everyone. Nicky isn't much of a "crier", but I know he has shed several tears in the last 48 hours alone. It's been a lot for him and we are trying to just take it one day at a time.

@bcgal00 .... hugs to you, too! It's tough not being able to see our loved ones! I think that's the hardest part for a lot of people these days.
