Do you know a picky eater? If it's you, why? If it's your kids, why?

My DD is 6 and adopted. She has mild FAS but it's only physical mostly except her texture issues with food and her temper (stubbornness really). She does not like "mushy" foods and does not like anything "pokey" (her words but it means that it scrapes her tongue like say a hard candy). She has what they call a "mottled tongue" from her bio parent doing drugs while pregnant. Her tongue looks like cow hide with the big splotches like on a cow. The splotches are dead. No nerves or taste buds are on those spots. So she can't feel the food there or manipulate it very well. She didn't eat baby food until she was almost 9 months (that and her digestive system was so screwed up when we got her - a story for another day)

At any rate, DD only eats certain foods and rather than a full meal, she grazes most days. Small snacks or meals all throughout the day rather than 3 big ones. It's what keeps her going. She is very tiny in stature and size. But healthy. :) I give her a vitamin supplement every day to offset the foods she can't eat.

She loves sweet potatoes and beef. But won't eat chicken or pork. She loves pasta but with no sauce. (she gags on sauces because she can't move it around enough). She loves apples and strawberries. She loves bread...omg, she is a carb junkie! LOL.

My 4th kid is a picky eater. Or was, still is to an extent. He's 15 now, but when he was a baby/toddler he was so picky. So so so so so picky. Processed foods were about the only thing he would willingly eat (hot dogs, pizza, chicken nuggets, fish sticks, banquet frozen dinners....... mcdonald's....) as well as almost anything sweet. He wouldn't eat pork or anything that had a bit of fat on it. For years I made 2 different dinners. One for the kids consisting of what that boy would eat, and one for me and the husband. I refuse to do that anymore and haven't the last 4 years. He eats what we do or he doesn't eat, and he can't afford not to eat because (we joke) that when he turns sideways, he disappears. Hot dogs are still inhaled like they're going to grow feet any second and run away. Like for realz. You put a hot dog on his plate and blink....... it's gone. Pork is still iffy, but he's gotten better. Instead of sitting at the table for 2 hours to finish a pork chop, he's only sitting for 45 minutes.

My husband (ex-military), my daughter (17) and the youngest (12) will try anything once. Me, I know what flavors I like and those that I don't, so meals are planned around my own tastes (hahahaha). However, when it comes to my plate, stuff can NOT touch. The macaroni can't touch the peas can't touch the meat. Things like dipping sauces and runny foods (ie gravy, cheese sauce, anything like that) have to go in a dish on the side because I don't want it running into anything else on my plate. My husband has threatened on more than one occasion to find and buy me divided dinnerware. I double dog dared him to do it. I would be a happy clam for realz if he did, lol!

Hahah Jen, that's funny!

My daughter has allergies, so she's picky. We don't do dairy, eggs, or peanuts for her. Sounds like a lot, but we've grown accustomed to it. When we go out, we get "the look" from people, clearly thinking we just have a picky eater.

My son will eat almost anything, but doesn't handle spice well. Tacos are about as spicy as he can go without complaining too much. We joke about my mom's "chili" and call it "turkey bean soup/chili" because it's ground turkey, tomato paste, onion, and kidney beans, and he loves it, but that's the spiciest chili he would eat. Lol

I saw a posting on Facebook recently about toddlers not eating. It was hilarious.... because it's true. The food itself isn't usually the issue, but more... the plate is the wrong color, I didn't match the silverware, he got the yellow, it's for "babies", etc. Things of that nature. ;)

I am a reasonably picky eater but my husband is far worse . I would eat anything that anyone put on my plate but out of choice there are lots of foods I wouldn't select . The only thing I absolutely will not eat is fish and I am pretty much vegetarian although I will eat chicken that I have cooked myself . I am only vegetarian because I just don't like meat. I don't know how my husband is alive because if it's green he won't eat it so no vegetables no salad nothing healthy. Things like onions mushrooms and tomatoes he doesn't like the texture of that likes the flavour so I have to blend them when I use them in things like vegetarian chilli Lasagne casseroles et cetera
