For me>>> HANDS DOWN>>> Macaroni and Cheese, but not your average bear 'mac and cheese'!!!

For years I have searched high and searched low for a recipe that would taste just like my Grandmothers homemade macaroni and cheese!!! I have tried countless recipes... and none even came close to holding a candle to what I remembered UNTIL TONIGHT!!! I finally found what may be her recipe!!! If it is not, it sure is close!! I remember seeing her and my aunts making it together, as it was quite the production... I remembered many of the ingredients but did not know them all.

Today has been cold here in Cypress, Texas and I was craving my Grandmother's mac and cheese!!! So just messing around on the internet, looking >again< for mac and cheese recipes, I stumbled upon 'the recipe' 'I think'. It was a really DOOSY to make... took over an hour to put together, takes 3 hours to slow cook, took 30+ minutes just to clean up my mess... BUT I just tasted it and OMG>>> was it worth every minute that I spent grating the cheese and making the sauce!!! OHHHH WOW, am I in heaven!!!

Sooooo what is your favorite winter comfort food and to what lengths will you go to get it??

All that and you don't even share the recipe?! *gasp*
My husband loves home made mac n cheese, but obviously with the allergy, he does not get to have it. On occasion, he and I will have something different, or maybe a date night dinner or something. ... lol

Let's see. I don't really have anything that is winter fave or fall fave or whatever. But i have a recipe from a friend that I need to try and make safe, tortellini soup. (I need to find the original recipe, too. Lol!)
I really like chili/soup/stews. And especially ones I can mix either all in one pot, or in the crock pot.
Tomorrow, we're having pot roast. :)

You guys are making me hungry (although I have to admit, I NEVER eat Mac & Chees...but now I'm thinking about food.) thankyouverymuch :p There are lots of main dishes I like, but when I think comfort food, I think home baked goodies. Yeah..that's why I'm thanking you, coz now I wanna bake :p I haven't baked goodies in a LONG time...and I better keep it that way. Otherwise, I'll eat them all. My hubby isn't a fan of cookies/brownies....drat :p

Oatmeal fudgies are a favorite :) Before you ask, I'm including the recipe, coz you may as well make them. But be warned, you'll want the whole pan :p I'm saving my calories so I can have a piece of pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving :p This is from a cookbook I made for my kids years ago...so you get a bonus brownie recipe, too :) It's another yummy one. Dang...now I'm thinking about them. Curse you both :p

Hands down again and AGAIN!!!! Macaroni and Cheese is my go to food! I love it! I ate it all the time with my 3rd pregnancy. I played and played with my recipe until I got it just right! I don't slow cook mine tho, I've thought about it. I normally make my cheese sauce, let that simmer while the noodles cook then mix it all together with per-cooked ham cut into small chunks topped with shredded cheese and into the oven. BUT that cheese sauce HAS to be JUST RIGHT. to late for a trip to the store tonight as it's nearing mid-night. I foresee a grocery trip tomorrow and not for last min Thanksgiving stuff ;)

I am not sure if I have a favorite winter comfort food......I do have a beverage and ofcourse that is hot chocolate ;) When the temperature outside starts to drop.......you can almost be certain I will make hot chocolate for you. Oh, with real chocolate too.......no chocolate powder in sight :) I also love all kinds of toppings: whipped cream........mini marshmallows, grated chocolate. Oi, the list is endless !!! haha I also made hot chocolate in our crockpot once......to die for !! I will make it for my sons birthday party next month....I am sure the kids will love it :)

Not necessarily a winter comfort food - Texas doesn't have much of a winter! - but I gotta say mac N cheese is my anytime comfort food. Last night when I came home Sam had made some for the kids and it was still warm, so I decided that I needed some, too. Also, when my youngest was about 3, I used to have to make it in big soup pots and heat it up for him - he would eat it for breakfast, lunch & dinner!

I'm getting so hungry reading this! I'd have to say two of my favorite winter meals to make in the winter is Corned Beef with potatoes and cabbage, and the other is beef stew. They both are delicious, hearty, and warm!
