I think the journaling says it all:
Our first Christmas in command at the Norman Corps was different from what we’d done in the past. |We only had 4 young people in the congregation, so we joined with the Oklahoma City Citadel Corps for youth programming. This year we did the youth musical “‘Meet Me at the Manger”. Justin was just 10-years old but already had a voice to die for, reaching into lower bass range. He was also fearless on-stage, so he anchored the ensemble and had three major solo pieces.
The manger scene was not part of the stage set. It was the Christmas lawn display outside our home each Christmas we were there. Most of our neighbors slowed down and enjoyed it as did
many from outside our neighborhood, too except the grumpy neighbors across the way. They put up 20-foot spiders and webs at Halloween that were sized just right as far as they were concerned but felt our Christmas display was too large and faith had no place in Christmas. He was the president of the Homeowner’s Association and tried to push his values on the rest of the
neighborhood. The next day faith-based displays went up all over the subdivision. He finally decided they were part of what Christmas is, like spiders - YUCK - and Halloween!!
