How do you feel about digital scrapbooking kits and elements and papers and such that are made using artificial intelligence (AI)? Such as Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, Adobe Firefly, DALL-E, or Leonardo?

I'm answering from a bit of a different angle, but I'll still give my opinion since I own the site :p

It actually depends on the element and/or paper. Some are so obviously AI - they don't get my support. Things like extra fingers/toes, weirdly shaped flower petals or leaves that aren't connected like they naturally would be or any other unnatural element that just looks wrong. Lol, we've all seen the extra hand in the weird place, etc.

I've dabbled a bit with AI, and I find that it pushes me to be a bit more creative, but it's very frustrating for me. I'm just not very good with AI prompts, and don't have the time to work on it. So, I'd rather buy CU from someone that has really learned to use it in a positive way....and some of our designers are REALLY GOOD with AI.

If a CU designer offers products created with AI, I prefer that they give it their own touch or their style. I like seeing something and knowing who created it, whether he/she used AI for part of it or not.

I do worry where AI is going in an already shrinking hobby. I hope our customers will continue to support our designers, as we have some of the most talented ladies in the digi industry on our team!

Thank you for your thoughtful answer, @Fayette. I go back and forth about how I feel about AI. I think it's fun, and it's great for brainstorming, but I also wonder/get slightly concerned about how the AI models were trained on other peoples' art. So, I guess I don't exactly know how I feel about it. I can see very valid reasons for using it when brainstorming and creating digital scrapbook elements and kits, especially in terms of protecting the designer against copyright claims. And I have a lot of fun when I play with it. But I also don't want some other artist to be upset with me if I used AI in a design or layout. Then again, you can't please everyone all of the time; chances are someone somewhere won't like it. It just seems tricky to me. I guess, in the end, to me it's just a tool -- possibly a controversial one -- but it's just a tool.

I don't like AI, although it has it's uses. I do find it helpful for changing the color of things. I did do a few Christmas photos with it, which was fun but it tends to look very fake.

It's as @Fayette said, "It actually depends on the element and/or paper." I don't mind if it looks realistic or artsy in a way that I like. I think that the kit should be labeled as "AI was used in the creation of this kit." AI should be used to expand a designer's options not replace them.

I don't like it for creating "art." I think it takes away from the personal feel of kits and art in general. I want to buy things that another artist intentionally created with their hands (or digital tablet, etc). I do understand some people are going to use it regardless of what anyone thinks, and some people don't care and that's fine too! I guess my request would be that people say it was created with AI. I like to junk journal, and it is so frustrating scrolling through endless amounts of obviously AI generated images. I don't want to put that in my journal or scrapbooking personally - it doesn't feel personal, and I wish it were easier to filter so a buyer can see what they are looking for if that makes sense. It just makes me sad to be honest.

I'm sure I've used CU products that were AI generated without knowing it, but what I'm talking about is all the images - fairyland backgrounds, etc, or things that just look obviously wrong and the person selling them didn't even look them over to make sure. I think it's just gone a bit too far.

As far as CU goes, I agree...some are obviously AI, and just not something I would use. I have no problem with designers where that is "their thing", but dang, look closely at things before packaging them to sell. Also, I think I said it before, but when I'm buying CU, I want to know if it was created or enhanced with AI.

I agree that it should be labeled as AI when it is used. It can look great but also can look so artificial and it's hard to see how a piece actually looks until you purchase the kit and open it up. Sometimes it is hard to see what is actually in a kit in the preview.

Last week, I was exporting several LOs for print and Photoshop asked me about including the AI metadata. I have no idea what in the LO was created with AI. It was all standard papers and elements and my photo. It surprised me.
