There is an app called Ultimate Food Value Diary. It’s pretty much the exact same thing. You have to buy the app but it’s no more than $10. It’s really good! You keep track of everything right there.

thanks but that would not work for me, need FREE way to do it on the pc to track foods (have basic phone has too small a screen to do anything like that )

Stacy, @zanthia, there is an app I use that I also use on my computer called MyFitnessPal. Their database is quite large and you can track food, exercise, water; as well as set goals for your macronutrients (protein, carbs, fats) in percentages. I've been using it steadily since January and it works well for me.

I started out just counting calories, but got frustrated that I wasn't losing any weight. After six weeks I switched to counting carbs and have since lost about 4 lbs over the last couple of weeks. I've also read tons of info on Intermittent Fasting and eating a low carb/high fat (LCHF) diet and am seeing results. I've never been a big believer in 'fad dieting', but the science behind burning ketones seems to be working. I can't believe the clothes I'm able to get into these days. I'm really excited.

Continued success to those who are seeing results. And for those that need a "kick in the pants"....get busy!! LOL ;)

Cherryl, I'm using a FREE app named FatSecret, and I'm tracking everything, including my activity, it really works great for me.
Here the link, if someone is interested https://www.fatsecret.com/

How is everyone doing with possible restrictions in food availability in the stores? Are you eating any differently during this pandemic?

I'm eating more carbs, partly b/c that's my comfort zone and I'm ok with eating a bit more carbs to have a little less stress and enjoyment right now. Plus its hard to find some of the foods I normally eat. So, I've been enjoying beans and gluten free pasta (for the first time in about 4 years).

Food, stress and anxiety are things that go together for me a little to well. So I think I have put on several pounds since this shelter at home thing started. I keep planning on getting back to my dieting, but it still seems to stay in the planning phase :) anyway. I will get there again. I lost the weight before I can do it again. Just trying to at least keep the walks in and some basic strength workouts.

Heather - yes that is fasting. I do somewhat of what they call dirty fasting. I generally don't eat between 9:30 pm and 11 am which is a short fast but I do have almond milk/cream (for coffee) in the morning. I don't do this to "fast" so much as I just am not a morning eater and am happy with coffee for most of the morning. I sometimes eat a few nuts and/or banana around 11 but don't eat the banana when I'm doing a high fat/really low carb day. I'll have lunch anywhere between noon-3 and then dinner around 7:30 with a snack around 9 and then I'm done for the day. I think your body knows what works well for it and follow your instincts. I get lots of flack for not being a morning eater and then eating later into the night but this works for me and is when I feel my best.

I read your comments Rae, I work also with the low carb approach in combination with intermittent fasting. I "have" for more then 3 years diabetes type 2. Tree years ago I was on medication but for the last 2 years I'm eating less carbs en doesn't need medication anymore. A great side effect of a LCHF way of life is that I don't have any crave for food. A few years ago when I was diagnosed with diabetes I went to a eating disorder clinic because the told me that I had BED (Binge Eating Disorder) Nobody ever told me that eating less cabs will help a lot. The day I quit eating lots of carbs, my health improved, BED was gone, diabetes in remission, cholesterol perfect, anti depressive medicine not necessary anymore. It was one of the best choices I've ever made. :giggle:

LCHF has also been very successful for me, too, Femke. I was doing a balanced/caloric count type of lifestyle for the past few years and found the weight creeping up and then not coming off. Once I started looking at my macros (Carbs, Fats, etc.) I was surprised by the # of carbs I was eating, even though they were healthy carbs. Since then (Feb), I switched to a LCHF lifestyle, I've lost more than 20#, even though I include wine most nights at dinner....lol A real treat, since I thought I had to give up wine to lose weight....!!

Thank you so much for your reply Beth! Great to hear that this is working for you too! Can you please tell me more about your approach? Did you read a book about this befor you started? I often look on you tube for information and inspiration and in the internet for recipes.

I did most of my research at www.healthline.com since they have so much information about LCHF lifestyle. I'm like you Femke...I search the internet to find many recipes, and belong to a Facebook Group called: Simple! Proven! Results! which members post lots of recipes. If you want me to invite you to that group (altho I don't know if you need to be invited or not. i just lurk ;))

Yes, for me too, the cravings went away which I always had struggled with. I've recently introduced more plant based foods while remaining off white bread and sugar but am still low carb most days. I just feel better when I eat clean, lower carb and (mostly) gluten free (but can tolerate small amounts of high fiber whole grains). I try to stay away from too much dairy as it makes me itchy and causes sinus problems but can tolerate a bit. I stopped following any specific diet plan and tweaked a clean eating/lower carb plan for myself.

I'm so glad this approach has helped you all! It really works for me, too, but when I have stress--as in NOWFORTHELASTUMPTEENMONTHS--I seem to lose all self-control and just grab the nearest carb I can get. =/ Ah well, tomorrow is another day! ♥

That's good to hear Rae! You know your body quite well!!! That's a good thing, I think we try to often to catch things in numbers an statistics. Our bodies are organic and need an more organic approach.

I know what you mean ;) Been there a lot of times... Funny that we always go for the carbs. Take care :loveyou:. How are you now, are you (almost) recovered?
