I'm about halfway through "The Chemist" by Stephanie Meyer. It is excellent. Sort of espionage thriller kind of thing. Highly recommend it.

Ooh Mark Edwards! Good books. I follow him on Twitter, he has many recommendations for mystery thriller writers. Also like reading about his cute little family and pets.

I want to add one author here I haven't seen. Liane Moriarty. She is Aussie. Her books just pull you in. The characters are like the people you know, flawed but still likeable...and the twists! I just loved The Husband's Secret.

Ohh I'll have to get that one! My husband loves them really long and historical. He listens to them while he rides his bike-goes through more than I can keep up with!

I have The Husband's Secret, how awful is it that I THINK I read it (the preview sounds like I know what happened) but I can't remember details! I think I'll have to put it on my list to read (again) soon! I just looked, and What Alice Forgot sounds great too.

I'm a huge fantasy nut. So, at the moment, I'm re-reading The Wheel of Time Series, by Robert Jordan, although Brandon Sanderson had to finish the series when Jordan passed away before he was able to finish it (fortunately he left notes on what he had planned, and Sanderson is a very talented writer in his own right). I'm on the penultimate book in the series at the moment.

I also enjoy historical fiction and some science fiction. Plus some non-fiction (nutrition books, being a dietitian; science books; some history).

As for audiobooks, I was never able to get into them until I suffered a concussion and couldn't read for several months while my brain healed (I had to stay off the computer during that time as well - not fun). About the only two things that didn't cause symptoms were: 1. listening to audiobooks, and 2. crocheting. So when I suffered my concussion, I fell in love with audiobooks for the first time ever, and rediscovered my love of crocheting (which my maternal grandmother had taught me back when I was young, so I could get my knit/crochet badge in Girl Guides!) I still enjoy listening to audiobooks today, especially before bed. I find putting one on as I'm lying in bed, trying to fall asleep (with a timer on), on my iPad, allows me to fall asleep easily. Other people find listening to books gets them too "worked up" before bed, but for me, it allows me to just focus on the story, and my mind drifts off to sleep when it's ready.

I am a voracious reader, though, and my husband and I, although we purged our book collections back in 2010, need to purge them again. We love books and reading, and although we do have library memberships, there are still some books that we just have to buy. So they tend to accumulate. Since we get posted (and have to move) ever 3-4 years, that becomes an issue. So, it's time for another purge again! There are some authors' books that I will never get rid of, as I constantly re-read them, such as L.E. Modesitt Jr., Robert Jordan, Brandon Sanderson, JRR Tolkien, Isaac Asimov, George RR Martin, Diana Gabaldon, Jack Whyte, Neil Gaiman, and a bunch of others, as I've re-read their books numerous times.

Oh my, you need to check out the books by Khaled Hosseini. He's the author of The Kite Runner, And the Mountains Echoed and A Thousand Splendid Suns (this one was by far my favorite, but also a very difficult book to read because of the way some cultures treat women). But they're all fantastic books.

I love historical fiction & one of my all time favorite books is Follow the River by James Alexander Thom. Another fantastic author is Ken Follet - Pillars of the Earth was really amazing (*warning* there are some pretty graphic parts in this one)...but man, he can really make you feel like you're right there when they're building the cathedrals in medieval times!

I also love light reading like Nicholas Sparks. I have a lot of great "light reading" books on my kindle. Lol, I just went to get it to list some of them for you, but ummmm...it's dead. I'll have to make a new post when it's charged & I can get the titles & authors.

I love to read when I travel, too, even if it's just a short trip to go to one of my kids' homes. Lol, I always have a book with me. If Kees is really focused on driving, I just pull out my book :)

Ken Follet is great! I forgot him in my list. The Pillars of the Earth books are awesome!

I am a voracious reader... have to read every day!

Kay Hooper is a a great author... she wrote some light romances - but I really like her Bishop FBI series.
Catherine Coulter is another with the FBI series featuring Savich and Sherlock. She also writes some romances.
And of course - Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series! Just finishing up re-reading these.
Robyn Carr - she has several series... all have been fun to read
Suzanne Brockmann - Navy Seals series
Love Christine Feehan's Sea Haven series and her new Shadow Rider [1st in the Shadow series]
Karen Robards - The Last Victim, Last Kiss Goodbye, Her Last Whisper,The Last Time I Saw Her
Lisa Gardner - great suspense
Julie Garwood - another great suspense writer
Dee Henderson - The O'Malley family Series
Kathryn Shay - After the Fire
Iris Johannson {and Roy Johansson} - Eve Duncan series
Anne McCaffery - all of the Pern Series - Dragons of Pern, etc...

Tony Hilderman
Tom Clancy
Dan Brown
James Mitchner
Alister McClain

Outlander and Pern are two of my favourite series!

I read Game of Thrones, liked it, even though it was longer and a bit deeper than I was wanting a the time. You know what though? No desire to watch it on TV. I generally DO like to see the movies after I read a book (I try to never watch the movie first) but I'm not a TV watcher anyway.

Has anyone else read the book Game of Thrones, and then watched it, and would recommend that I give it a try?

I read all of the Game of Thrones books (at least the ones that were written in time) long before the TV series was even a hint of an idea (i.e. I read Game of Thrones - the first book in A Song of Fire and Ice shortly after it came out). My husband, who is like me, and I, have enjoyed the TV series so far (although we haven't caught up to the latest season, where things surpass what was written in the novels). It was quite funny early on in the TV show's history, because you could always tell who had read the books by how "shocked" they were by things that occurred in the TV series. I think I still prefer the books, although Peter Dinklage has me liking the character of Tyrion far more than I did from just reading the books!

Interesting - thank you for the insight! I've only read the first of the books, mainly because I have so many others I'm working through, not because I didn't care for it.
